How this build plays

Small creatures build Animar’s counters and discounts. Reusable enters-the-battlefield effects then turn those discounts into more cards, more bodies and damage, with large creatures as an alternative pressure plan.

  1. 01SET THE STAGE

Let the cheap creatures do the building

Elvish Visionary replaces itself when it enters while its cast puts a counter on Animar. Wood Elves finds a Forest on entry. These creature spells develop mana and cards while making later generic creature costs smaller; colored mana requirements remain.

    Animar, Soul of Elements

Protection from white and from black Whenever you cast a creature spell, put a +1/+1 counter on Animar. Creature spells you cast cost {1} less to cast for each +1/+1 counter on Animar.

    Elvish Visionary

When this creature enters, draw a card.

    Wood Elves

When this creature enters, search your library for a Forest card, put that card onto the battlefield, then shuffle.

  2. 02BUILD THE ENGINE

Bring the Statue back for another cast

At four counters, Animar removes Ancestral Statue’s entire generic cost. The Statue can return itself on entry, ready to be cast again. With Impact Tremors already in play, each return to the battlefield deals damage to every opponent. The sequence needs all three permanents and remains vulnerable to interaction.

    Ancestral Statue

When this creature enters, return a nonland permanent you control to its owner's hand.

    Impact Tremors

Whenever a creature you control enters, this enchantment deals 1 damage to each opponent.

  3. 03CARRY IT THROUGH

    Turn spare mana into reach

Choose X when casting Walking Ballista; Animar’s reduction can pay down its generic cost, but the chosen X still determines its entry counters. Those counters can be removed for damage. Temur Ascendancy gives other creature threats haste and draws cards when creatures with power four or more enter.

Commander Bracket Assessment

Rules-Based Bracket: 3 minimumEstimated Power Bracket: High 3–Low 4

Based on the 100-card main deck; sideboard excluded. The Rules-Based Bracket is the lowest bracket this card list allows under Commander bracket rules. The Estimated Power Bracket is a personal estimate of how strongly the deck plays. It is not an official rating.

Evidence and limitations

Rules-Based Bracket · minimum

  • 1 Game Changer: excluded from ordinary Brackets 1 and 2.

Exact Game Changers: 1× Rhystic Study.

Mass land denial registry: None identified in the checked registry. Modal or repeated-land targeting still requires a pregame discussion.

Your extra-turn cards: None identified in the checked registry. Opponent turns from Emrakul or gifts are not counted as your own chain.

Confirmed early two-card lethal or turn-chain flags are not inferred from keywords. This is a lower bound, not a complete combo solver or permission to delay a consistently early line until turn seven. Agreed Rule Zero / Exhibition exceptions are outside this ordinary-restriction check.

Estimated Power Bracket · High 3–Low 4

Estimated from the card list alone, not from tracked win rates or game results.

Animar plus Statue can repeatedly build counters once the generic discount covers Statue. Tremors or a further Ballista outlet makes the engine lethal; the two-card counter engine alone does not kill the table.

Assembly and timing: Cheap creatures can build four counters in early turns, but the hand must also find the outlet. No broad nonland tutor suite in this list guarantees the full sequence.

Recovery and constraints: Creature draw supports rebuilding, while commander removal resets the discount and can strand large creatures.

Curve: 3.32 average nonland mana value. Cheap mana/land-search text: Delighted Halfling · Birds of Paradise · Elvish Mystic · Sakura-Tribe Elder · Llanowar Elves · Fyndhorn Elves · Biophagus. This text-derived reading aid is not an official score.

Search-library evidence: Wood Elves · Farhaven Elf · Sakura-Tribe Elder · Solemn Simulacrum. This includes restricted and land searches; efficient tutor overlap is reviewed separately above. There is no official tutor-count cap.

Fast mana indicators: None identified in the checked registry. Conditional free interaction: None identified in the checked registry. Conditions and resource costs still apply.

Key cards: Animar, Soul of Elements · Ancestral Statue · Impact Tremors · Walking Ballista.
